81Handyman is a service marketplace designed to connect people looking for handyman services with local professionals who can provide them.
Rather than simply listing service providers, the platform manages the complete process—from creating a job and receiving offers through selecting a handyman, communicating about the work, and processing payments.
Mavinix developed the platform around this end-to-end business workflow.
The Solution
Mavinix developed a custom web application that brings the entire service workflow together in one platform.
Customers can create jobs describing the work they need. Handymen in the relevant area can review available jobs and submit offers.
Customers can communicate with handymen through the platform, compare offers, and select the professional they want to work with.
Once an offer is accepted, the platform manages the payment process through Stripe Connect, including the distribution of funds between the platform and the selected handyman.
The workflow continues through completion of the job and final payment.
How It Works
Handymen Create an Account
Handymen register on the platform and create their profiles.
They also establish a connected Stripe account so that payments can be processed and funds can be distributed to them through the marketplace.
Customers Post a Job
A customer creates an account and submits a job describing the work they need completed.
The platform captures the information required to connect the request with suitable local handymen.
Local Handymen Submit Offers
Handymen can find relevant jobs in their area and respond with offers.
This creates a marketplace-style process where customers can compare different professionals and their offers.
Customers Communicate and Choose
Customers can communicate with handymen through the platform before making their decision.
Once the customer selects an offer, the job moves into the payment and fulfillment process.
Initial Payment
The customer makes the initial payment through Stripe.
The platform automatically allocates the payment according to its configured commission structure, with the applicable portion going to the handyman.
Job Completion and Final Payment
After the work has been completed, the customer makes the remaining payment through the platform.
The order can then be completed, bringing the transaction workflow to a close.

The platform can retain a configurable percentage of a transaction while distributing the remaining amount to the participating handyman.
Multi-Stage Payments
The payment workflow supports an initial payment when an offer is accepted and a final payment when the work is completed.
Payment Workflow
One of the more complex parts of the application was integrating the marketplace workflow with Stripe.
The platform needed to coordinate payments between three parties:
Customer → Platform → Handyman
When a customer accepts an offer, the platform processes the initial payment and applies the configured platform commission.
The applicable portion is transferred to the handyman's connected Stripe account, while the platform retains its configured commission.
A second payment is processed when the job is completed.
This allows the payment workflow to follow the actual business process rather than treating the transaction as a simple one-time checkout.
